Growth is the hallmark of good business. Staying on top of industry trends, learning new skills, and understanding shifts in the market help deliver better products and services to clients. This blog will detail how we stay curious and what we do to make sure we are always learning and growing as a team.
Gaining new skills and experiences has always been important to the Improving Winnipeg team. It was that way when we were Imaginet and it continues to be an essential part of how we operate as Improving Winnipeg.
Remote Work and Staying Curious
Is there a way to learn and grow as a team when most of your staff is remote? Yes, absolutely. Most of our team works remotely. There are some who have adopted a hybrid work model and others who are in the office every day. But overall, remote work has not stopped us from learning and growing as a team. We make it work.
Lunch N’ Learns are a great way for us to come together and learn from one another. Nothing is off limits. We’ve had presentations on special projects, technologies our team works with, event attendance, how to improve your writing, and more. Our team has a wealth of knowledge, and you better believe we are going to capitalize on that as much as possible. You get food involved and it’s hard to keep our Winnipeg staff away from the office!
We also have Come Together events. These are less work-related, and more for fun, but they serve an important purpose. They allow us to get to know each other outside of the office environment. These are low-pressure events that allow us to socialize, vocalize our life updates, share laughs, and build connections.
How We Stay Curious About Work
At Improving, we are highly encouraged to take courses that increase our existing work skillset or take courses we are simply interested in. All of it benefits how we perform our jobs.
We’re given space to explore curiosity-driven projects as well, which can have unexpected results. It comes down to this: expanding your knowledge is never a bad thing. Improving recognizes the benefits gained from personal and professional growth.
The Importance of Learning and Growing as a TEAM
Having individual goals for growth is important but ensuring your employees have the opportunity to grow together is just as essential. Communication and collaboration are the cornerstones to completing projects well and on time.

Gaining new knowledge is important, but it’s also important to learn new things about your co-workers. To stay updated on their lives and celebrate their successes and wins.
We’re lucky to have a group of people that has fun together. Knowing more about our coworkers’ lives allows us to work better together. It builds trust and increases comfortability. It allows us to fail and understand what went wrong. It creates an atmosphere of openness; one where we can ask questions and challenge each other.
Final Thoughts on How We Stay Curious
When deciding to hire a consultant, you want someone (or a group of people) who is, of course, qualified, but it goes further than that. You want someone (or a group of people) who understands the importance of trust, who isn’t scared to ask questions, and who actively wants to learn and grow.
